Which iPhone/iPod Touch applications are good for learning French?
I'm going to France at the end of the month, and I would like to know at least a couple phrases when I go. I've been checking out the French apps on iTunes, but I'm not too sure which one to pick. Which do you think is(are) the best one(s)? I would prefer not to pay for one, but I'm willing to shell out a couple bucks to learn.

Does anyone speak French Creole? I want to go to New Orleans, but I want to learn to speak Creole.?
What are some that can go places interest? Thanks for your help.
The people of New Orleans speak English - not French (or French Creole). New Orleans is one of the places special in the world with a unique environment in North America, and remains so even after Katrina devastated in 2005. Katrina flooded 80% of New Orleans salt water and the water stayed for almost a month. Much of the city is still struggling to recover and all you have to do to see devastation is drive around. It will take years for NOLA to fully recover from Katrina. However, parts of the city that tourists usually visit were not flooded. It is no coincidence - The French Quarter and other old parts of the city were built on relatively high ground and only suffered wind damage from Katrina. Almost all the damage has been repaired and have to look closely in the FQ and city center to see that Katrina happened. You should visit and see for yourself. You can drink the water, electricity and working the phones and services like the post office, hospitals, schools, police and fire / EMS, and the shops and malls are operational. Municipal services like street cleaning and garbage collection collapsed after Katrina and that's why you can see answers warning about the "evil smell "or" dirty "French Quarter. These services are fully restored in late 2006 and is no longer a problem. I recommend staying in the French Quarter (Vieux Carre ") if possible. There is a wide range of options available, from moderate guest houses to very exclusive" boutique "hotels. Search Yahoo Travel and Travelocity for ideas + check the hotel websites. You do not need a car to move in the French Quarter, Central Business District, or a warehouse district. In addition, parking regulations are Byzantine and there are lots of Parking Control Agents. If you drive or rent a car, leave it on a lot or garage unless you are away from the center. The regional transportation authority (www.norta.com) sells 1 and 3 day passes that offer unlimited use of buses and trams for the day (s) you select. There are also plenty of taxis. Regarding crime, use the same common sense you need in every major city in the world and there is little chance that you will be a victim of anything except the need to visit the gym: Pay attention to your surroundings. Keep away from dark and deserted. Pay attention to your feelings - if anyone or any party gives you a bad feeling, leave the area. Do not let something like a camera bag or backpack unattended on a park bench as they leave to take photos. Etc. New Orleans has mild weather from October to May and the city stays green all year, most the years (rarely freezes and almost never snows). Summers are hot and humid, especially in July and August - Take It Easy or stick to indoor activities in half the day at this time of year. The good news for summer visitors is that hotel prices are usually lower. Things to do: There are many opportunities tourism in the greater New Orleans area, including carriage rides and tours, plantation tours, swamp tours, ghost tours and even tours of disaster Katrina. The steamboat Natchez also does a harbor tour. There are numerous tour companies and the hotel can help with arrangements. Try to avoid scheduling a visit outdoors until you know the weather forecast for the day in question. There is always music, but the bands change: Go to then www.bestofneworleans.com Music Listings click or www.offbeat.com and clicking on the list, then music. Stroll through the French Quarter, enjoy the architecture, see the actors in the street (not the tip), and visit some historic buildings have been turned into museums (go to click www.frenchquarter.com and historic sites). Assuming that the weather is good, you can pick up a sandwich and eat in the riverside park (see shipping) or in Jackson Square (a beautiful park). Riverwalk Mall has an air conditioned food court with dining overlooking the river (www.riverwalkmarketplace.com). The lobby of the Wyndham Canal Place is on the 11th floor and offers overlooking the French Quarter. It is a great place for a drink in the afternoon / C: http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/MSYCP/main.wnt Café du Monde is in the French Quarter and not to be missed with cafe au lait and beignets (www.cafedumonde.com). Another great coffee shop is the Croissant d'Or (at 615 Ursulines Street), which is open from 7:00 to 2:00 pm and has food other than pastry. The Palm Court restaurant is very nice, has moderate prices, and traditional live jazz starting at 8:00 pm: 1204 Decatur Street, tel 504-525-0200 (reservations are important and are not open every day). All the famous restaurants (Antoine, Arnaud, Commander's Palace, etc.) have reopened. Reservations are a good idea, and probably essential on weekends. Cafe Degas is a French restaurant near City Park in 3127 Esplanade - which is not within walking distance of downtown (5 to 10 minutes by taxi). They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (504-945-5635). There is a free ferry across the Mississippi in the "foot" of Canal Street. It's a short trip but like a harbor cruise w / or guides: The Aquarium and Audubon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canal_Street_Ferry Zoo are world-class attractions (www.auduboninstitute.org) and you should see if you can. There is a link boat (not free) between the Aquarium (which is next to the French Quarter) and Zoo (which is several miles away). You can also lead to the zoo (which has free parking) or public transport from the French Quarter. The Louisiana State Museum (http://lsm.crt.state.la.us/visitor.htm) is in the French Quarter. New Orleans is also home to a number other museums, like the National World War II Museum (www.ddaymuseum.org) and the Museum of Art, New Orleans (www.noma.org). Both can be reached by public transportation: The Museum of World War II is in the central business district but a long walk from the French Quarter. NOMA is not within walking distance of downtown, but free parking. City Park New Orleans has an amusement park with rides and attractions for children + free parking: http://www.neworleanscitypark.com Time www.frenchquarter.com of ideas on things to do. I live and work in Nola and invite you to write me for more information. I do not work in the travel, tourism, or real estate fields so do not try to sell anything. I hope you have a good visit!
